Born in the quiet town of Belmont, Massachusetts, Chris Velona has navigated the globe through the viewfinder of his camera: Japan, India, Samoa, Europe have all been frequented during his travels. The dream of optical imagery began as a childhood fascination with the ‘behind-the-scenes ‘culture of Hollywood. The director chairs… The producers… The cameramen no one knew. Chris turned this fascination into his career.
Chris Velona began his career at “1515” better known as MTV headquarters’ in New York City. After graduating from University of Massachusetts at Amherst, all it took was pressing the record button on a video camera to know that he was onto something. “When I started at MTV and I picked up a camera, it came to me so naturally. I’d always find a frame,” explains Chris.
Chris Velona’s work as a field producer provided MTV’s, “My Super Sweet 16” with record ratings. Chris’s career began at MTV and by word of mouth, he garnered clientele that would trust his creative judgment on projects around the world.
Chris’s work as a Director of Photography has spread across the spectrum of the media business from producing content for tastemaker fashion brands like LRG, Glamour Magazine and Modelina to producing infomercials for conglomerates like Goldman Sach’s worldwide charity foundations. Chris’s career has been built on a diverse portfolio of work. Chris Velona has shot with nearly all the major networks on television including and not limited to: ABC, CBS, TBS, FOX, NICKELODEON, TV Land, DISCOVERY, MSNBC and the History Channel.
Based in Manhattan, Chris Velona currently runs his own production company known as Chrisp Productions. Chrisp Productions provides high definition media services for both small businesses and network studios worldwide.
